Year 7 Enquiries
Enquiry 1 'Making connections'.
Students design, write and email home a postcard that identifies
the tourist attractions of a major LEDC city. Current contrasts and
attempts that have been made to improve conditions within the city are
then explored.
This enquiry consists of the following GeogITs;-
GeogIT1 Starters and;- Where is Rio de Janeiro? Why is Rio de Janeiro a popular tourist destination?
GeogIT2 What is life like in a favela?
GeogIT3 Extension material- A scheme that has led to improved living conditions for people in a favela, plus a plenary.
ASSESSMENT TARGET.
Enquiry 2 'The restless earth-earthquakes and volcanoes'.
Includes writing a newspaper article describing a recent major
earthquake, annotating a downloaded image of an active volcano and
using interactive maps to fond out why most earthquakes and volcanoes
are found close to one another.
This enquiry consists of the following GeogITs;-
GeogIT1 Starters and;- Has a major earthquake recently struck?
GeogIT2 Is there a volcano that is currently errupting?
GeogIT3 Extension material- Where are most of the world's earthquakes and volcanoes found? and plenary.
ASSESSMENT TARGET.
Enquiry 3 'People everywhere'.
Compiling a living area gragh in Excel from current data to show
how & why the world's population has grown, and identifying /
explaining one country's high Birth Rate and a second country's high
Death Rate.
This enquiry consists of the following GeogITs;-
GeogIT1 Starters and;- How many people are there in the world
today? How has the world's population grown? Why has the wrold's
population grown at an increasing rate?
GeogIT2 Extension material- Which country currently has the
world's highest Birth Rate? Which country currently has the highest
Death Rate? and plenary.
ASSESSMENT TARGET.
Enquiry 4 'Flood disaster- how do people cope?'
Students present the problems faced by a flood victim caught in
recent flooding in Bangladesh and in Soutlern England. Then compare and
contrast the effects of flooding in the two areas.
This enquiry consists of the following GeogITs;-
GeogIT1 Starters and;- You are a flood victim in Bangladesh. The flooding is at its worst. What problems do you face?
GeogIT2 You are a flood victim living close to the River Ouse
in Southern England in October 2000. The flooding is at its worst. What
problems do you face?
GeogIT3 Extension material- Which problems are common both to
the victims of flooding in Bangladesh and the UK? In what ways is it
worse for a victim of flooding in Bangladesh than it is for a UK flood
victim? and plenary.
Enquiry 5 'Exploring England'.
Students plan and present a five day sightseeing tour of Britain.
They use interactive route planners to find distances between
attractions. They then decide from the current weather forecast how the
planned sightseeing tour will be possibly affected.
This enquiry consists of the following GeogITs;-
GeogIT1 Starters and;- You are a travel agent. A group of
tourists are flying in to your nearest airport tomorrow. Its your job
to plan a five day sightseeing tour of England. The tourists want
to visit the following;- a national park, the coast, a city, a historic
place and a place with lots of entertainment.
GeogIT2 The coach driver will also be the tour guide, he wants you to complete a mileage and itinerary chart.
GeogIT3 Extension material- What is the local weather forecast
for the places you intend to visit for the next five days? Are you
going to make any changes to the itinerary? and plenary.
Enquiry 6 'World Sport'.
Students use current data to compile a column graph in Excel which
is then analysed to see if the most successful football clubs in the
world are found in the world's wealthiest countries. Students plan a
return journey to the next away game of a chosen football team.
GeogIT1 Starters and;- Are the most successful football clubs in the world to be found in some of the world's wealthiest countries?
GeogIT2 Extension material- You've started to follow premier
league women's football. You've decided to go to the next away match
you need to plan how you are going to get there. and plenary.
